Geocaching
Rediscover the fun of mountain hiking. At the Hahnenkamm mountain, a true adventure El Dorado experience begins for young and old: set off on a hike and go on a "treasure hunt."
Geocaching is the latest sport. The best way to describe it is to liken it to a treasure hunt. A cache is a hiding place or a treasure, which you track down using GPS coordinates. All you need is a GPS device.
Fun for the whole family
Geocaching is an outdoor treasure hunt in the real world for the entire family. Participants in this game try to find hidden containers, called geocaches using a GPS-enabled device (smartphones as well) and then share their experiences online.
The treasures in the caches themselves consist only of small items - after all, searching is the true reward of this activity.
On your way to the cache, you'll enjoy great views, discover hidden trails, and see and experience places you may even already know from a whole new perspective.
And especially for kids, "dull" hiking becomes much more appealing whilst treasure hunting with a cool GPS device. Kids won't even notice how time flies!
After all, the focus is on the fun of searching and experiencing nature. Without noticing, children will climb many metres of altitude and spend a few hours hiking.
When you have found the treasure, you sign the log book. If you take something out (small items to exchange such as key rings, figurines, marbles, etc.) you must always put something back into the cache so that the next cacher (treasure hunter) will also find something. That's Cacher Codex

The Geocaching Code
- ... or what else you need for geocaching & what else you should consider:
- The right clothing and sturdy shoes are a must. Geocaching is much more than just a "simple walk in the woods."
- Bergbahn Kitzbuehel geocaches are never buried or to be found in places that would be forbidden to enter.
- GPS devices may tempt you to look at the screen while walking, but this can be dangerous in the mountains, so always watch where you step. Geocaching is always AT YOUR OWN RISK!
- If you find a cache, sign the logbook right away. On geocaching.com, you can (after registering for free) record your finds online.
- When you take exchange items from a cache, always leave something of equal or greater value behind.
- In some cases, the caches contain information: for example, the coordinates to the next cache. Take thorough note of this information!
- Always leave the caches as you found them: in the same place, in good condition and with all the information. Other cachers are relying on you!
- Show respect for nature! Thanks to its beautiful landscapes, breathtaking Alpine scenery and impressive views of nature, geocaching in the Kitzbuehel Alps is something extra special. Help keep it that way!
- Cache Me, If You Can!
Geocaches are small containers that can be found all over the world. The GPS coordinates are published online. Geocaching is the practice of looking for these containers - with a lot of desire and passion for creativity. Sometimes geocaches even contain items to exchange.
Geocaches can be hidden anywhere: On trees, in rock crevices,... there really are no limits to the creative imagination.
To find geocaches, all you have to do is enter the given coordinates into a suitable GPS device.
