Bike ARGE Association

“Further and further, higher and higher” is a trend in cycling as well. More and more people are exploring the mountains with e-bikes. Ascending with an electric motor has made many routes much easier but there are still rules that need to be followed. For instance, if hikers jump to the side in fright because a biker overtakes them or a group is frightened by someone braking on a gravel path, then sometimes conflicts of interest and accidents involving hikers and bikers can quickly occur.

Hazardous situations such as these should be addressed through a holistic and collaborative approach. The aim of this project is to create a holistic approach that manages hikers, bikers and conservation areas in a future-oriented manner.

Aims of the project

  • Consistently address and steer the target group
  • Safeguard existing added value in the areas of cycling, mountain biking and hiking
  • Engage and support stakeholders (landowners, hunters, etc.)
  • Raise awareness for the issue amongst the general public
  • Steer the positive and high quality cycling and walking offer
  • Develop the region in a sustainable way - Pay attention to existing resources and treat nature with care

Work stages, activities and milestones

Development of a forward-looking “non-motorised traffic concept." Traffic data from mobile phones and Komoot as well as counting systems reveal who is out and about and where. In addition to the separation of cycling and hiking routes, new joint cycling connections are planned for the future.

Target group, cooperation and synergies
The target group is the entire population of the ARGE partners' area as well as their tourists. The entire population and all age groups are addressed. The project is implemented in cooperation with municipalities, tourist association offices and cable car operators.

A contribution to the cross-sectional objectives of innovation and/or environment and climate protection
What makes this approach innovative is that the acquired measuring stations allow the data to be centrally networked and used for future measures. Another benefit is the dissemination of collected experience and data in the region and beyond. Furthermore, the technical equipment can be used for frequency measurements as well as for other measurements. The measuring stations are also available to others in the region.
